FAQs

Are seat numbers allocated when I exchange my vouchers at the station?

As a rule Amtrak does not assign seat numbers on trains. On long distance trains passengers may be assigned to a specific "car" based on their destination. The assignments are normally handled by the train crew on the day of departure.

Where can I exchange my e-voucher?

The e-voucher in your wallet needs to be exchanged prior to boarding. Please allow time to do this, we recommend at least 1 hour.

Tickets can be picked up at Quick-Trak kiosks or ticket offices located at all major Amtrak stations- just use your credit card to activate the kiosk and enter your reservation number as listed on your e-ticket. YOUR CREDIT CARD WILL NOT BE CHARGED. The Quick-Trak Kiosk will print your tickets.

Will you need ID to exchange your e-vouchers?

If your trip involves an International border crossing, you must carry with you proof of citizenship, and proof of identity.

Amtrak requires passengers to carry a passport at all times as proof of identity.

Can I request window seats or close to seats when I go exchange their voucher?

Amtrak does not assign specific seats. As such, the passenger is free to sit wherever they please once they board the train.

Can I use a economy fare on an Acela service?

Economy fares are only valid on regional services.

Can I purchase an open dated Economy Fare?

No all Amtrak fares include a reservation for a particular service on your nominated date and time of travel. It is not possible to purchase an open dated ticket. It is possible to amend the date and/or time once you arrive in America. Call Amtrak's customer service line 1800 USA RAIL (1-800-872-7245) to request changes. All requests are subject to availability.

What is the difference between 1st, Business & Economy class on Amtrak?

Economy class is available on all Amtrak trains except Acela Express. Amtrak coaches feature comfortable seats with fold down trays and individual reading lights (may not be available on some short distance trains).

Business class on Acela Express offers reserved seating with extra leg room, at-seat outlets for lap tops and at-seat tray tables. On regional and many short to medium distance trains, Business class offers reserved seating with extra legroom, at-seat outlets for lap tops and complimentary non alcoholic beverages (except on those trains that operate between New York and Albany).

First class for personalised attention, Amtrak offers Fist class service on all Acela Express trains. First class offers spacious seating with at-seat service in a quiet, elegant atmosphere. Included in your First class purchase is your choice of meal and complimentary beverage, including wine by the glass, fresh linen and hot towels and complimentary newspaper.
