The Coast Starlight to San Francisco takes 12 hours but often runs behind schedule so please be aware of this. The journey takes you along the Pacific Coast of California. The train journey ends at Emeryville but connecting bus services will take you the extra 30 minute journey into San Francisco.
Explore Golden Gate Park, Chinatown, Telegraph Hill, and Jackson Square.If you make your way to Fishermans wharf there are also Tours of Alcatraz and boat tours on the Bay available.

Your Trans American journey is on board the Empire Builder Train. This train will take you across the states to Chicago over two nights.
