There is no shortage of sightseeing options in Vienna. You can enjoy a Wiener Schnitzel or an apple strudel and listen to some Mozart at the Vienna Opera House or perhaps expore the Baroque Palace of Schonbrunn and see the Lipizzaner Stallions at the famous Spanish Riding school.
A magnificent 3 hour train ride through the Austrian Alps. Reservations are not compulsory on these services and some trains carry panoramic carriages on board. Trains run numerous times each day and carry both 1st and 2nd class.
When you arrive in Salzburg why not visit Mozart's houses, stiegls brauwelt- Austria's largest private brewery or join in the musical movie legend with a "sound of music" tour.
This alpine town is just 1 1/2 hours by train on a small regional service which again does not require reservations and runs almost every hour throughout the day.
If you are not planning on hitting the slopes maybe take a visit to the Alpenzoo- a collection of alpine animals.
A 5 hour journey and you are back in the Austrian capital of Vienna.
