Thankfully, they're totally oblivious to the fact and will treat you like royalty as you wander throughout their magnificent country. Even more amazing is the fact that they've gone from raping and pillaging (you remember the Vikings, don't you?) to winning Nobel Peace Prizes within just a few hundred years. Today, it is a benchmark for civilised society with an exceptional high standard of living, stunning design and one of the world's great capitals in Stockholm. Away from the cities, Sweden takes in vast areas of scenic coastline, idyllic islands and stunning arctic scenery.

• The capital, Stockholm has plenty of bars, stylish cafes and a fantastic eclectic lifestyle and culture.
• Experience a cold drink and the 'ice beds' at the famous Ice Hotel in Jukkarjarvi, Lapland. Talk about effort, this hotel needs to be rebuilt every winter after the heat of summer is over.
