Hungary
While it is said that Hungary is a heart stealer, it is certainly no pickpocket. Rarely does a country offer so much for so little money. In fact, Hungary makes many of its better-known neighbours look like modern day Ned Kellys. Rich wines, thermal spas and consummate luxury can be found in the countryside while its capital, Budapest, is a magnificent setting for a lively arts, caf← and music scene. As for its architecture, we're fortunate for the fact that Hungarians believe that if it's Baroque, don't fix it.
When in Hungary do as the Hungarians do and:
- Replenish all those kilojoules you've burned off sight-seeing by stuffing your face full of delicious home made cakes that are readily available in the numerous back street stores in Budapest
- You've seen it in a thousand photos, now see it for yourself. Visit Budapest's Gothic Parliament building that sits right beside the magical Danube River (which isn't always blue)
- And while you're in the Parliament, creep yourself silly in the labyrinth beneath with only a rope to guide you through the dark
- But if shopping is more your style, don't despair because Budapest is full of fantastic little markets.
