Bulgaria

If you like the thought of taking the path less travelled, take a look here. Probably like you, Bulgaria has changed dramatically in the last ten years. But probably unlike you, some of its inhabitants can still be found riding donkeys to work, eating spuds they've grown themselves and making their own cheese. But, as one astute visitor noted, the difference now is that they 'wash it all down in front of satellite TV'. Unlike its wealthier neighbours, Bulgaria is struggling hard to adapt to new social and economic realities. But while many things are changing one thing remains constant: Bulgaria's people remain ever welcoming.

Don't leave Bulgaria without:

  • A Swim in the Black Sea, ok so the sea isn't actually coloured black but still it sounds pretty cool to say you swam in the Black sea....
  • Feeling energetic? Bulgaria has 35,000km of paths marked throughout the mountain ranges, with guides provided and plenty of mountain chalets and guest camps to stay in.
  • Also who can resist it when you hear the word "spa." Well, you wouldn't want to miss the mineral water spas along Bulgaria's coastline.
  • And Rila National Park is also worth a trip with its 7 lakes and 10th century monastery.
