1. "Great value if used for 'big' train travel days and then buy in between tickets all at half price!"

Well worth it. We bought the three day flexi pass for our three 'big' train travel days and then used it almost every other day of our three week stay to buy half price tickets on buses, trains and even cable cars which really made it worth while. The Swiss transport systems are second to none... definitely do not need a car in this country!

This pass is great if you know exactly how long you will be in Switzerland. We spent hours doing spreadsheets and research of the best pass. We were here for 3 weeks and took three relatively expensive train journeys. We chose a 3 day flexipass and these trips were all free. We then got half price travel for all other trips we did. This was great because without the flexipass I think we would have thought twice about some of the trips we took. Overall I consider train travel in Switzerland to be quite expensive but there are so many discount passes available, there is no need to pay full fare.

4. "Convenient to use but question value when pre booking was not necessary and 2nd class would have been available between major cities"

The main reason for purchase was the belief we needed to book in advance during the busy summer season - we travelled in Sept 2011. In fact the trains Lucerne- Zurich and Lucerne - Berne were not heavily booked and purchase at the time of travel would have been easy at the station. We booked 1st class and again this was not necessary as 2nd class would have been fine. Swiss trains are so good for cleanliness, punctuality and smooth riding.

initiating the pass was a little bit of a hassle. Had to queue in the booking office for 20 minutes. Once at the desk it took about 5 minutes. No problem but do allow enough time to do this. We made our preferred train by one minute. Once on the train it was brilliant
